Tiburtino is the sixth district of Rome and takes its name from the Via Tiburtina that begins in its territory and which in turn is called “Tibur”, the ancient name of Tivoli. The Tiburtino district is located in East Rome and is among the first 15 districts of Rome, born in 1911 but officially established in 1921. At first it included only the area of San Lorenzo, then, in 1931, it extended to the Via Prenestina and, the following year, it also merged the area of Casal Bertone, up to Via di Portonaccio. Tiburtino is a neighborhood very rich in services and places of interest, lively and young, it is also a landmark for many reasons, in particular for the presence of the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and for the proximity to Termini station. There are many places of interest in the neighborhood, including the aforementioned La Sapienza University and the Ministry of Aeronautics; there is also the well-known monumental cemetery of Verano and also important churches and basilicas, archaeological sites and many parks and green areas such as Villa Gordiani, Villa Marcede, the Park of the Fallen of 19 July 1943, the Park of Energies and the Park of Torrione Prenestino.
