The Pinciano district lies between Via Flaminia and Via Salaria and is a stately area that extends around Villa Borghese, characterised by museums and very popular gardens. The northern area of the District, however, almost borders the Parioli Mountains: a good part of it, in fact, is part of the Parioli in the common toponymy of the Romans, even though it is formally the Pinciano District. The neighborhood has always been occupied by vineyards and villas, with Villa Borghese and Villa Giulia, the oldest, soon joined by Villa Sacchetti, Villa Balestra, Villa Pallavicini and Villa Caetani. The first subdivision of the neighborhood began with the creation of Via Po in 1907, built with stately villas, while construction of the Monti Parioli area began after 1908. In 1911, the Avenue of Fine Arts was created, leading to the Zoological Garden and the National Gallery of Modern Art. From that time on, various Foreign Academies arose in the area, the first of which was the British Academy. To the north, towards Viale Liège, Piazza Verdi opened up, occupied by the large building of the State Mint Printing Office.
